ENERGY STAR TAX CREDIT SYSTEM, You can receive a 30% tax credit ( up to $1500.00) for installing an energy star approved roofing system on your PRIMARY residence only .

The details are as follows: Metal roofs with appropriate pigmented coatings" and "asphalt roofs with appropriate cooling granules" that also meet ENERGY STAR requirements are eligible. A Manufacturer’s Certification Statement is a signed statement from the manufacturer certifying that the product or component qualifies for the tax credit is needed.

Manufacturers should provide these Certifications on their website. Call the manufacturer, or search their website. EPA does not have copies of the Manufacturer's Certification Statement. Taxpayers must keep a copy of the certification statement for their records, but do not have to submit a copy with their tax return.Roof coatings were not eligible for the tax credit at the time of this document, but should be accepted for the program in the near future. The roofs that are eligible are "reflective roofs". They will provide the most benefit in hot sunny climates where you are using your air conditioning a lot. If your house is already shaded and the roof is not exposed to much sun, then a reflective roof may not provide a significant benefit.
